Hair color Application Procedure.
To ensure successful result when performing hair coloring services, the colorist much follow a prescribed procedure. A clearly defined system makes for the greatest efficiency and the safety and most satisfactory results. Without such a plan, the work will take longer, results will be uneven, and mistakes may be made.
Preliminary Strand
Test
Once you have created color formula for your client, try it out first
on a small strand of hair. This preliminary strand test will tell you how the
hair will react to the formula and how long the formula should be left on the
hair. The strand test is performed after the client is prepared for the
coloring service.
Temporary Colors.
There are many methods of applying color, depending on the product
used. Your instructor will help you interpret each manufacturer’s directions. To
apply gels, mousse, forms or sprays, return the client to your work area after
shampooing and apply color according to manufacturer’s directions.
Semi-permanent Hair
colors.
Semiparmanent color lack the strong oxidizer necessary to lift; they
deposit color and do no substantial lifting. When selecting a semi-permanent
color, remember that color applied on top of color always creates a darker
color.
Due to their deposing nature, semipermanant colors may also build up on
the hair ends with each application. A strand test will determine your formula
and processing time before each service.
Demipermanent (Deposit-Only) hair color.
The application procedure for a demipermanent hair color is similar to
that a semiparmanent color, since neither color alters the hair’s natural
melanin or produces lift. Follow the manufacture guideline for application and
processing time for the product you have selected.
Gray hair present special challenges when formulating demipermanent hair
color, as there is no lift, the resulting depth of color when covering gray
hair may appear too extreme unless you allow for some brightness in your formulation.
Hair that has previously received a color service will have a greater
degree of porosity, which must also be taken into account when formulating and
applying a demipermananet hair color.
Permanent Hair
color
Permanent hair color application is classified as either single process
or double process
